The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Javad Zarif have held phone talk on January 4, 2020, the Ministry told VOICEPRESS.
During a phone conversation, the ministers discussed issues of growing tension in the light of recent events in the region. The Azerbaijani side calls on all parties involved to refrain from violence and be committed to commitments to strengthen regional security. Minister Mamedyarov expressed deep condolences to the leadership and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran in connection with the death of General Kassem Suleimani.
It should be noted that on January 3, as a result of a US missile strike, the commander of the Al-Quds special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (elite forces of the Iranian armed forces) Kassem Suleimani was killed.
Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared three-day nationwide mourning in connection with the death of K. Suleymani.
